Who put chewing gum in my brain?

I'm so fcuking tired I can hardly keep my eyes open, and thinking a thought through is nearly impossible. I almost didn't get up to go to practice this morning because my head didn't want to leave the pillow and later I fell asleep on the bus to work...

Besides that I just need to brag a little, although, most of you will probably think I'm even more insane than you ever could imagine ;-)

We've been away with work for two days on some kind of development conference for my unit. We went to a charming place outside Stockholm, in the archipelago. In the evening of the first day there was some time for recreation and a few of us decided to take a sauna. The facilities were excellent! A wooden fired sauna on a pier and only a couple of meters to get in the water. And so I did. For your information (Carl!) it was 52 degrees and just marvelous :-D

The water was 52 degrees or it was 52 degrees outside? (I assume this is farenheit?)

Very sweet Bee of the Week!

the water! but now that you ask, i think it may have been about the same outside. (and yes, farenheit.)

is work drowning you? know you're in my thoughts, Anna!

Thank you... : ) I'm hanging in there. And glad that you are too!

Chitta, I think perhaps you are a polar bear! (shivering)

Although there is something exhilarating about a swim like that!

I like being in outdoor jacuzzis when it's snowing.

OMG. That is so beautiful. I prefer warm water though!

Yes, Bee of the Week is sweetness incarnate!

i prefer warm water too if i'm going for a swim. when taking a sauna warm water is useless though. only makes you feel sick. in this context, i think you're absolutely right Anna, 'exhilarating' is exactly what you want :)

a few winters ago i went to a japanese inspired spa that have hot baths outside. it was a magnificent feeling to lie there, surrounded by steaming water and watching the falling snow :)

oh, and the Bee pic is one in a series where she rolls herself up in that piece of cloth. pretty funny to see her do that all by herself!

hope you're both having a good friday, and an even better weekend ahead! xxxx

We chanted "yoga chitta vritti nirodaha" at Laughing Lotus this morning and I thought of you! Hope you're having a marvelous day!

The photo is great! very inviting...
What a lovely little scene.
Didn't post a comment on your last entry, but those photos are SO FUNNY!
I love that you let us know the temperature (especially for Carl's sake). burrrrr!

I keep coming back to this post to look at the photo. And I visualise myself in that water. It is my meditation for the time being. To feel light like when I am floating in the water, on my back.
and cold water when you come out of the sauna is the right thing.
One day I will go to such a sauna with an outdoor pool, until then it is a cold shower between the sessions in the heat.

Liz, i thought it'd be best to especially inform Carl since he is a bit of wimp when it comes to cold water ;-)

i wouldn't say it's very enjoyable to stay too long in that cold water. at least not long enough to feel weightless... we're talking a quick dip here! it's the sensation that comes afterwards that is a treat. i think i may actually be a polar bear, Anna!

Fatou, i hope you get to try such a sauna one day! till then you're welcome to come back here as many times as you like, how nice to see you :) (oh, and a really cold shower in between is a good substitute!)

Once in Canada on a road trip, we went in the sauna and then out to roll around in the snow, back and forth. Fun!

Chitta, I want to ask you something since you are really good with photos on your blog. How do you get them where you want them within the post? No matter where I put the cursor when I click 'add image', the image always goes up to the top of the post. I'm unable to put one in the middle or at the bottom, why???

Susan, this is quite popular in Russia, too - to roll in the snow after the sauna. Or swim a little in the icy water. Brrrrrrr!
Regarding the photo - I think you need to create space on the bottom of your post by clicking Return several times - then you will be able to drag your photo there. If you want it on the side, you need to choose the side position before you upload the image.

Excellent photo, Chitta. 52oF is a little cool for me, in spite of my shtrong Russian origins. :)

Thanks Alfia, I've tried those things though and they don't work, each one goes right at the top above the last one. Grr! I posted in teh blogger help group, but not sure i'd be able to find the answer if there is one!

Chitta, I apologise for taking over your blog with a boring techie questions, I just love the way you interperse the photos throughout your posts :(

@Susan
when you decide to add the photo you have the option of left right etc alignment, once you've downloaded the photo and it iis visible in the editing phase of your post, you can dragi it into a different spot, just check where the cursor is ticking and drop the photo. However it will only drop it on the right it you chose the right alignment when downloading the photo.
I don't have it all figured out yet, but it seems to work
more or less. I need to work on my photo quality though, so far I"ve been using my mobile phone camera and it's pretty crap.

Sorry Chitta about this long technical post.
And now for some sauna photo meditation
om, sauna sauna namaha ;-)

At last!! Thanks mangotree. I'd tried cutting and pasting (doesn't work) and thought I'd tried dragging, but I think I didn't put the cursor down there first. It's a bit awkward dragging it all the way down but it worked at last. So simple (I'm a bit thick at such things)..

Chitta, you are definitely gaining some karmic merit points by having this long boring issue of mine happen on your blog. Thank you.

Oh and mangotree, I checked out your blog too, very nice!

Susan, no worries, the question is completely legit and takes some space to answer well! i'm so glad Alfia and Fatou (that is what you call yourself, no?) felt free to help sort it out in my absence :) besides, i'm not sure i would've been able to explain it so well. i do all this in 'edit html mode', cutting and pasting code around. images always goes in the top, no matter which mode you use, but as pointed out, it's important to chose left/right/center alignment when uploading the pic.

about my sauna pic, i have to admit i'm not the photographer... i stole it from the site of the place we stayed at. but still, it does make what we experienced justice! i wouldn't have posted it if it didn't.

on the other hand, this post is illustrated with a pic of me and some friends rolling in the snow :)))) it's a good substitute to a cold dip. however, one should really put on some shoes or flip-flops because the feet becomes completely frozen when running out of the sauna and back!!!

om, sauna sauna namaha :-D

apparently i'm no html goddess after all ;-) the link to the post is: http://lookingfornirodaha.blogspot.com/2008/03/cold.html

52 degrees isn't too bad. That's not so cold that it would cause my head feel like it's cracking. When I first read about the Scandinavian sauna tradition I imagined that the water is supposed to be one degree above freezing or so. Sweden is far to the North! I prefer water in the 80s though. I'll take a Hawaiian sauna over a Scandinavian sauna any day.

chitta vritti said...

Carl, i do wonder if ANYone would voluntarily go into water as cold as just above freezing? i still think you would appreciate the scandinavian way if you ever had the chance to try it for real :) it is quite a different treat. on the other hand, i've never tried a hawaiian sauna, so maybe i should just shut up? ;-)

Carl said...

CV, Hawaiian sauna is great. One swims in the warm water as long as desired and, when ready, jumps out to dry in the breezy, humid air. Repeat as necessary. I'm sure I'd enjoy a Scandivian sauna too, though.
