Aren't they beautiful? We had a tree growing up, and before my grandmother died I brought them to her all the time. Here in NYC, they are very expensive and only last a couple of days so I haven't bought any... but I love them.
It's also peony season, which is short, so I've been trying to enjoy them as well.
here the sun is still shining and it's getting warmer every day :)
Alfia, i walked under this lilac tree on my way home from work yesterday and you should've smelled it, amazing! the whole city is just full of blooming lilacs right now and it's so beautiful :) how wonderful to have a tree! i suppose then, you didn't grow up in NYC, Anna?
I miss lilacs! There are bushes here that look uncannily like lilacs, but they aren't. The smell is wrong. When we were kids, we were looking for the lilac flowers with 5 or more petals. The belief was that if you eat them, your wish would fulfull.
Lilacs have a very strong and particular smell. This smell does not make a good perfume, though, cause there is something there that reminds of a smell of human sweat (without the unpleasantness of it). Hard to explain. :)
lilacs smell like - lilacs :) i've never thought that they might remind of human sweat... come here next year in the end of May and you can smell them!
Alfia, i haven't heard that about the petals! is it the same as when you see a falling star?
I guess yes, but it was easier than seing a falling star. I remember I ate A LOT of flowers. Do not remember if any of the wishes came true. I love lilacs smell; but I did not like the perfume. It smelled like a strong flower scent masking a sweat odor. Come to think of it, probably that was the case and I am being unfair to the perfume? :D

I do love those lilacs.
It's still sunny here today - was supposed to be stormy, rainy, but not yet. I don't mind summer thunderstorms, but the sun is nice...
Beautiful lilacs! We had a lot of them back in Almaty; in the spring the whole city smelled like lilacs.

I grew up half in NYC, half in the suburbs....
I love that you will see lilacs now and think of Alfia! That is nice.
